New York Leading Building Efficiency Initiatives
January 17, 2020
New York State has big plans for improving building efficiency to reduce energy consumption. Submetering can help.
Recently, Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that an additional 2 billion dollars will be available for both businesses and residents to invest in energy savings in the heating and cooling space. This is an ambitious project that totals over 6 billion dollars in building efficiency investments over a period of five years, starting in 2020, in partnership with the New York Power Authority, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the Long Island Power Authority and a previous PSC order on efficiency.
Building efficiency investments such as wireless water meters, or regulated thermal meters can help identify potential utility waste, or be used for tenant engagement to reduce use over time. A web-based meter reporting platform can help compile all meter data in one easily accessible location, perfect for energy consumers, property managers, building operators, or LEED consultants to view and analyze.
Space heating can use up to 25% of a building’s total energy use. Realize energy reductions by submetering today.
